Our mission
ALAGO was created in response to the growing economic and social challenges faced by the rural communities in the Upper Sipsey Basin and I-22 Corridor regions. As these areas experienced declining workforce participation, particularly among women, and diminishing educational attainment, there was an urgent need for a coordinated effort to revitalize the local economy, enhance educational opportunities, and address the unique challenges of these rural areas.

Who we are
The founders of ALAGO recognized that traditional economic development approaches were not fully addressing the needs of these communities. They saw the potential to harness the region’s rich agricultural heritage, proximity to key industrial and defense hubs, and the untapped human capital in the area. By focusing on strategic initiatives that combined workforce development, STEM education, and sustainable economic practices, ALAGO was established to be a catalyst for positive change.
What we do
ALAGO was created to bridge the gap between the region’s potential and the reality of its economic and social conditions. The organization is designed to bring together local stakeholders, educational institutions, businesses, and government entities to create a collaborative ecosystem that supports long-term growth and prosperity. By cultivating Alabama’s rural potential, ALAGO aims to ensure that the region not only survives but thrives in the modern economy.
